Introduction

Mahinda Chinthana which is the vision of the present government is the process of implementation the development through the new approach of participation development from bottom to up initiating at village level, divisional level then district and provincial level and finally at national level.

 

In relation to above concept, financial allocations   which are received for regional development if used for the infrastructure development in isolated villages while they are integrated. Further with the intention of creating a community with an education, economic social and cultural improvement, relations between Pradeshiya Sabha and the community are strengthened. This will be more helpful for Pradeshiya Sabha to provide a more efficient and effective service. In order to achieve such objectives this Pradeshiya Sabha inter   villages development project has been initiated as a pilot project according to a concept of Hon. Basil Rajapaksha – the Minister of Economic Development.

 

Representing four districts 4 Pradeshiya Sabhas ( Angunakolapalessa from Hambantota, Passara from Badulla, Siyambalanduwa from Moneragala and Kuruwita from Ratnapura )  were selected in 2008 to carry out this project as a pilot project. Angunakolapalessa Pradeshiya Sabha is one of them. At the moment this project is being implemented in 11 Pradeshiya Sabhas.

 

Under this project, each Pradeshiya Sabha is allocated 210 millions rupees. 10 million of that as a institution strengthening fund and the balance 200 millions are given for the development of infrastructure facilities targeting upgrade of living standard of the community.

 

Specific feature of this programme is that planning, implementation, follow up and secure of development is jointly done by Pradeshiya Sabha and the community. As a pilot project this programme was started  by Angunakolapalessa  Pradeshiya Sabha on 09.01.2008 at the moment it is successfully implemented.
